The Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1973 under the name of the Antalya Medical Faculty, and was affiliated to Ankara University. In 1982, with the foundation of Akdeniz University, it continued its educational role as the Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine.

The undergraduate medical programme of the Faculty of Medicine was accredited by UTEAK in 2010.

The Basic Sciences Building is equipped to contemporary standards with a range of modern laboratories, educational models, simulated patient laboratories and simulation laboratories in addition with Anatomy Cadaver laboratories.

In Anatomy Cadaver laboratories there are many trainees from different countries taking part in undergraduate and postgraduate level courses, including various surgical training, interventional pain management workshops.
